BALLET

 

 

Dance Trance offers ballet exams under the Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.) Syllabus.You must be enrolled in a minimum of 2 classes per week (except primary) to be considered for exam entry.The instructors at Dance Trance will make the final decision as to your eligibility for SPRING EXAMS; a letter will be sent home by Jan 15th with this decision.Due to the difficulty and amount of material in the Grade 6+ exams, some students may need up to 2 years of 2x/week to qualify for exams.These grades may also do FALL EXAMS with sufficient summer school work, and approval of the instructors.

 

 

For grades 2 and up classes must be taken twice a week to qualify for exams and participate in recital.

 

 

Pre-Ballet (3 & 4 yrs)

• 30 min. class

•  participate in recital

• costume deposit required

• no exams

• pink ballet slippers

• ballet pink tights or white socks

• pink bodysuit w/matching skirt

• hair in bun/no bangs

 

Pre-Primary (5 & 6 yrs)

• 45 mins class

• costume deposit required

• exams offered at pre-primary level

• participate in recital

• pink ballet slippers

• pink socks; no tights

• short sleeved pink bodysuit w/matching skirt

• hair in bun/no bangs

 

Primary (6-8yrs)

• 1 hour class

• costume deposit

• exams offered

• pink ballet slippers

• pink socks; no tights

• pink bodysuit w/matching skirt

• hair in bun/no bangs

 

Grade 1 (min. age 7)

• costume fees

• 1 hour class

• exams offered (must take 2 classes/week to participate in recital choreography and be eligible for exams)

• participate in recital

• costume deposit required

• pink ballet shoes

• black character shoes

• pink ballet tights

• navy blue bodysuit (no spaghetti straps)

• hair in bun/no bangs

 

Grade 2-4 (min. age 8 gr. 2)

• costume deposit

• 1.25 hour class

• exams offered (must take 2 classes/week to participate in recital choreography and be eligible for exams)

• costume deposit required for those taking 2 classes/wk

• pink ballet tights

• pink ballet shoes (full sole)

• navy blue bodysuit (no spaghetti straps); royal blue for grade 4 only

• black character shoes

• hair in bun/no bangs

 

Grade 5/Interm Foundation 

• costume deposit

• 1.5 hour class

• Same as gr. 6-8 class info

• Pointe shoes

MUST TAKE BOTH CLASSES TO BE CONSIDERED FOR POINTE WORK. IT IS THE INSTRUCTORS DISCRETION AS TO WHICH DANCERS ARE READY FOR POINTE WORK, AND THIS VARIES FROM CLASS TO CLASS AND YEAR TO YEAR. IT IS ASSESSED ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS.
Must take 2x per week in order to qualify for exam and recital participation

 

Male Ballet Dancers

• dark shorts & white t-shirt

• white socks & black ballet slippers

 

Grade 6-8 Intermediate/Advanced

• 1.5 hour class

• must take 2x/wk to qualify for exams and participate in competitions and recital

• split sole (Gr. 6-8 only) or full sole pink ballet slippers

• pointe shoes (must be approved by teacher)

• black character shoes

• pink ballet tights

• bodysuit and matching chiffron skirt (calf length)

• hair in a bun/no bangs

 

“Open” Ballet

• beginner to advance levels offered

• Pointe (Inter Found+)

1. The student must demonstrate that she has the upper body strength and foot strength needed

2. Recommended min. age 12

3. Recommended that dancer’s foot has finished growing

4. If Dance Trance instructor feels it unsafe for the dancer to be in pointe shoes, they will do the curriculum in soft shoes for entire class

5. Pointe is incorporated into the ballet program from Intermediate Foundation onward.
